Since they don't have the North-American rights to Oni will this still work for the NA release? I wonder what are the chances that Rosetta will still be available for Lion? It was only an optional install in Snow Leopard. Not including Rosetta will allow Apple to remove all the PPC versions of the various frameworks, which they'd probably prefer from a space and maintenance perspective. I wonder if renewed interest in a second wave of PPCIntel ports is because developers know what is coming or not coming in this case? Personally, number 1 on my list of games that would need an Intel native version is Rosetta is not included in Lion is Starcraft.
That's the one thing I was wondering too (if Apple is going to abandon Rosetta in Lion). I hope it's there for one more version. But that has nothing to do with an Oni update; this Intel build has been in development for, like, forever. I think WoW keeps the Mac team too busy these days to do things like Intel versions of the legacy games and fixing StarCraft II. I even recently tried playing Warcraft III on my old 10.4.11 PPC Mac, and after updating to 1.24e, all it would do is crash when trying to bring up the options screen, stupid Blizzard.
Oni was fun, but the environments are so bland and lifeless. It's just not worth revisiting IMO. I think the source Feral is working with is Omni Group's port.
It will work for everyone. Surely they don't have distribution rights for iPad. Whoever owns the IP would sue and probably bankrupt Feral.
I don't like rosetta and I don't count games running in it as being 10.6 compatible since I've had bad experience with it even running old games such as id tech 3 titles and older Unreal Engine games. I've found time and time again if it's not a native version running it in a WINE based wrapper peforms better than trying to run an old PPC version in WINE and has more configuration options that I can tweak to have better settings on newer hardware ironically. There are certain Unreal Engine 1 2 games that where ported to PPC Mac that are allergic to advanced.ini tweaking and will reset it to only the settings allowed in the GUI like for even things such as resolution. But the PC version in a wrapper doesn't do that. Even games like Max Payne perform better wrapped. So most of the time I don't need rosetta and personally wouldn't shed a tear if it was gone in Lion. But that's just me and if it works for others then I don't begrudge them the choice.
Datamax w 6208 driver for mac. It's nice that Feral is picking up at least one of those games that were ported by Omni group and are patching it because for all intents and purposes they abandoned their ports and I didn't think a single one was going to ever get patched again. In fact I was listening to an interview one time where Omni basically said porting games is just a good way to get started and once you have the hang of it you move onto making serious non-gaming applications. Yes it is, as mentioned in the article, Ken Case at Omni passed over the code he had been working on and his work is the basis of mine but this is a side project by myself rather than an all out effort by Feral programmers. It has been done all in my spare time with a little help from a few Oni fans & Ferals permission to work on it. Hope to have the patch out near the end of Jan once this rush dies down as I have to finish off the last bits.
The patch will contain sparkle for future updates and should also have FSAA support plus a few other nice surprises for people who install mods. Cheers, Edwin. I know that you are working on this for quite a while now and it's good to see it finally comes into fruition. Definitely looking forward to dig my Oni disc out again. Oni was a fun game, but I could never get past that circular room with all the lasers and the terminals you had to hack.
I have to admit I stopped playing for a while when I hit that part. It's a real speed bump in the game's learning curve. It takes a few tries to pick up the pattern of the beams and get used to making the jumps, but once you get it it's not as hard as it seems at first.
On a tangentially related note, I played Red Steel 2 recently and it reminded me of Oni in multiple ways. The art style, the mix of guns and close combat, and, unfortunately, the fact that they shipped a game that wasn't really finished.

For those who have been hungering for the Japanese high action fighter/shooter called Oni, it has officially shipped. You can expect it on your favorite software store shelf as soon as the boxes get through the warehouses.
This means that it should be in store shelves for Macintosh any minute now. Oni has gone through a bit of controversy lately with the elimination of the promised Multiplayer aspect of the game, the aquisition of Bungie Software by The Beast, Microsoft, and the subsequent shift in control of Oni developement to God Games/Take Two Interactive. Another hubub arose when it became apparent to some bloodthirsty gamers that there would be no gore in the game. To these angry gore-freaks, we have only one thing to say: Go buy Soldier of Fortune. Graphically the game is stunning. Juicy colors, beautiful player models and animations, stunning environements.
We have been playing the game since MACWORLD San Francisco 2000 in one form or another and have found it to be a bit too console oriented. But this might still be a good thing.
Easy controls, linear gameplay. However, in the gameis defense, it is highly original in its cross-genre action and adventure. Throw in a dash of mystery and pinch of conspiracy and you have the recipe for what may potentially be the best game of the year. Stay tuned to The Mac Observer to find out how the game stacks up in our upcoming no punches pulled review.

However, most of the planet's population, both civilian and military, (particularly those assigned to Operation: RED FLAG), were kept unaware of the invasion. The vaporized of the refit stations also served to block incoming plasma torpedoes. However, the next Covenant salvo significantly damaged the UNSC fleet, as the Covenant maneuvered for clear shots around the titanium dust cloud and moved in for the kill. They destroyed five of the Super MAC platforms, further crippling the UNSC orbital perimeter, before retreating out of range. A, armed with a powerful, revealed itself and destroyed the and four other ships before withdrawing temporarily. The rest of the Covenant fleet withdrew to regroup after deploying hundreds of dropships to the surface.
The remaining UNSC fleet of 20 ships pursued the Covenant dropships, destroying some, but many still made it through and landed on Reach's northern and southern poles. As the surviving dropships disgorged thousands of troops, the Covenant fleet began another attack. Some ships made pinpoint slipspace jumps, putting them within the UNSC formation. This left them vulnerable for a short time but allowed them to strike the ODPs directly. Meanwhile, the Covenant vessel returned and destroyed the and from beyond ODP range.

At the same time, despite such a devastating defeat, the UNSC still fared better than in previous battles. The ferocious defense was so effective that at least outright fled the battle. The commandeered the fleeing to the previously undiscovered.

They programmed their MJOLNIR suits to transmit the 'Oly Oly Oxen Free' secret code on E-Band radio, hoping that any surviving Spartans would discover it and help them. Meanwhile underneath the ruins of CASTLE base, Dr. Halsey and five Spartans (Fred, Kelly, Will, Vinh, and Isaac) had spent five days combing the remains of a Forerunner structure and an additional five days trapped in a hallway inside the ruins by Covenant forces. During the opening cutscene of the level ', states that the fleet that destroyed Reach was 'fifty times' larger than the fifteen-ship fleet attacking Earth; taken at face value, it would seem that Hood is speaking in hyperbole. The 2010 reissue of Halo: The Fall of Reach took this statement literally and changed the number of ships at Reach from around 300 to 'over 750'; however, this change was made in only one instance, with all other statements regarding the fleet's size remaining consistent with prior versions of the novel. While the 2011 Definitive Edition removed this change, it is repeated in the comic book adaption,.
This entry, while possibly not entirely accurate, is an attempt to reconcile an inconsistency between Halo: The Fall of Reach and Halo: Reach. In The Fall of Reach, the Pillar of Autumn is said to jump away from the system at this time. However, as revealed in Halo: Reach, the vessel had initiated an emergency drydock at 16:52. This implies that the Autumn either remained in the system after its supposed jump, or that the part of the book with the ship escaping has been overridden altogether. ^.
